Blueberries are a nutritional bonanza of boosting health compounds ranging from antioxidants, anthocyanins, ellagic acid, to phenolic acids. Researchers at Tufts University recently carried an analysis of 60 fruits and vegetables, and rated the brightly colored blueberry with the highest antioxidant capability to wipe out free radicals.

Blueberries has one of the highest antioxidant ability to struggle the oxidative pressures of each day experience to air pollutants, unhealthy food and drink, excessive sun exposure, and man made chemicals that are implicated in everything from wrinkling and aging of skin to diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and others.
The health enhancing effects of eating blueberries have been well recognized for several years now, in being able to protect against the establishment of degenerative health conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, macular degeneration, brain illnesses, gastrointestinal health problems, and cancer.
With so many different materials found in blueberries, researchers are not sure which one has the most important and effective health benefits. However, eating the whole fruit is much better for your health than using certain extracts of the berry alone.
If you wish to store your best find, rather than eat them right away, do not wash them before refrigeration. They will keep relatively well, unwashed, in the fridge for 7 to 10 days. Before eating them, stem and reform the shriveled or moldy berries and wash.
Blueberries freeze exceptionally well due to their low water content, and will keep in the freezer for up to a year. They also preserve much of their nutritional content when frozen. Simply put down a single layer of unwashed, dry blueberries out on a cookie sheet and freeze. Washing them before freezing will negotiate the texture and toughen the skins. Transfer the frozen berries into dry pack freezer bags or cartons. Take out what you will be using, wash, and incorporate them into your favorite recipes.
With one of the lowest calorie content found anywhere in a fruit, at about 80 calories per cup, eating them a lot is not going to pack on the pounds. The sweet, luscious blueberry has a nutritional health profile fit for any health conscious dieter. A one cup serving of this fresh fruit also provides 5 grams of fiber and provides you 15 percent of your daily ingestion value of vitamin C.
Blueberries are undoubtedly one of the healthiest fruits in North America, with one of the highest antioxidant content of any known fruit. Blueberries are quite pleasant to eat.
High Antioxidant Value
Blueberries, along with blackberries, strawberries, and plums, have the highest total antioxidant capacity of any food. It is being regarded as one of the super fruits having the promising combination of nutrient value, emerging research evidence for health benefits, versatility for manufacturing popular consumer products, and antioxidant strength.
Neuron Protection
The compound anthocyanin, found in blueberries, is thought to slow down age-related loss in the mental capability of humans. Those who eat more blueberries are considered to have better performance in motor behavioral learning and memory. While it is consider that aging can diminish cognitive and motor functions, blueberries can be of huge help to enhance mental functioning.
Better Balance and Coordination
Blueberries also have positive effects to balance and coordination. In a study by Dr. James Joseph of Tufts University, it was revealed that a diet equipped with blueberries counteracted poor balance and coordination associated with aging.
Prevention of Diseases
A serving of blueberries offers a comparatively low glycemic load while providing a diverse range of nutrients, which also means there are fewer calories in a serving full of phytochemicals and nutrients such as iron, vitamins C and E. Due to the phytochemicals present, the risk of obtaining some deadly diseases may also be prevented.
