Planet82 has announced a CCD chip dubbed the SMPD (Single carrier Modulation Photo Detector) technology. Planet82 will demonstrate on how to take digital pictures or video in the dark without using a flash in CES 2007.
These imaging sensors are 2,000 times more sensitive to light than any standard sensor, and it’s able to capture images without the need for flash. No word yet when these CCD sensors will be available on consumer cameras to brighten up in all our nightshots.
